The little mice are sleeping, sleeping, sleeping,

The little mice are sleeping, through the house.

The old gray cat comes creeping, creeping, creeping,

The old gray cat comes creeping, through the house.

Fly away Jill.

Come back Jack

(bring back hands one at a time)

Over the hill and far away.

And we’ll all be happy and gay.

Two fingers, two thumbs keep moving etc.

(Repeat as above)

Two arms, two fingers, two thumbs, etc.

Two legs, two arms, two fingers, two thumbs, etc.

One head, two legs, two arms, two fingers, two thumbs, etc.

Right Hand, Left Hand

This is my right hand,

I’ll raise it up high.

(right hand up)

This is my left hand,

I’ll touch the sky.

(left hand up)

Right hand,

(show right palm)

Left hand,

(show left palm)

Roll them around.

(roll hands over and over)

Left hand,

(show palm)

Right hand,

(show palm)

Pound, pound, pound.

(pound fists together)

Ten Fingers

A fingerplay

I have ten fingers    hold up both hands, fingers spread

And they all belong to me,  point to self

I can make them do things-

Would you like to see?

I can shut them up tight   make fists

I can open them wide    open hands

I can put them together   place palms together

I can make them all hide   put hands behind back

I can make them jump high   hands over head

I can make them jump low   touch floor

I can fold them up quietly   fold hands in lap

And hold them just so.

 If You’re Happy

If you’re happy and you know it,

Clap your hands.

If you’re happy and you know it,

Clap your hands.

If you’re happy and you know it,

then your face will surely show it.

If you’re happy and you know it

Clap your hands.

stomp your feet

wave your arms

shout hooray

I Caught A Fish

One, two, three, four, five,

(clap hands five times)

I caught a fish alive.

(pretend to hold fish up)

Six, seven, eight, nine, ten,

(clap five times)

I let it go again.

(show empty hands)

Why did I let it go?

Because it bit my finger so!

(show hand)

Which finger did it bite?

The little one on the right.

(hold up little finger)

FingerPlays for Young Children

Hickory Dickory Dock

Hickory dickory dock,

(Touch your baby’s toes, knees, hips)

The mouse ran up the clock.

(Tickle up his body)

The clock struck one,

(Touch his nose)

The mouse ran down,

(Tickle down his body)

Hickory dickory dock.

(Touch his toes, knees and hips)

Incy, Wincy spider

Climbed up the waterspout

Down came the rain

And washed poor Incy out.

Out came the sun

And dried up all the rain

And Incy, Wincy spider

Went up the waterspout again.

Use your hand to be the spider that climbs up your child’s body,

tummy or arm. Your child might like to be the spider and use

her fingers to ‘climb’ up your arm!

Round and Round the Garden

Round and round the garden, went the teddy bear.

One step, two steps

Tickle under there.

(Walk your fingers around your child’s palm. Take steps with

your fingers up their arm, and then tickle their armpit or chin.

Also works with feet!)

Do Your Ears Hang Low?

Do your ears hang low?

(Circle hands down from each ear)

Do they wobble to and fro?

(Sway hands from side to side)

Can you tie them in a knot?

(Make knot-tying actions)

Can you tie them in a bow?

(Make bow-tying actions)

Can you toss them over your shoulder

(Toss them over one shoulder)

Like a regimental soldier?

(Salute/march)

Do your ears hang low?

The Wheels on the Bus

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

(Roll forearms over one another in front of the body)

Round and round; round and round.

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

All day long.

The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep,

(Tap on your nose)

Beep, beep, beep; beep, beep, beep.

The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep,

All day long.

The lights on the bus go blink, blink, blink,

(Open and shut hands)

Blink, blink, blink; blink, blink, blink.

The lights on the bus go blink, blink, blink

All day long.

The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish,

(Make arms like windscreen wipers)

Swish, swish, swish; swish, swish, swish.

The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish,

All day long.

The driver on the bus says, “Move down the back.”

(Make a hitchhiker’s thumb and gesture behind you)

“Move down the back,” “Move down the back,”

The driver on the bus says, “Move down the back.”

All day long.

The Grandmother’s Glasses Fingerplay

Recite this first verse of this chant in a high-pitched voice:

These are Grandma’s glasses.    Make “glasses” over eyes with fingers.

This is Grandma’s hat.   Place hands close together over head.

And this is the way she folds her hands   Clasp hands together.

And lays them in her lap.   Place hands in lap.

Recite this second verse in a deep, low voice:

These are Grandpa’s glasses.   Make “glasses” over eyes with fingers.

This is Grandpa’s hat.   Place hands farther apart over head.

And this is the way he folds his arms   Cross arms.

And takes a little nap.   Place head on arms, as if sleeping.

Lyrics:

Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick.

So she called for the doctor to come quick, quick, quick.

The doctor came with his bag and his hat

And he knocked on the door with a rat-a-tat-tat.

He looked at the dolly and he shook his head

And he said “Miss Polly, put her straight to bed!”

He wrote on a paper for some pills, pills, pills

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 35,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 13 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Click here to see the complete report.
